- Is the client eligible for PIP in the first place? Are they aged 16 and under their state pension age? Are they in the UK? What are the clients health conditions (diagnoses)? Have they been suffering with the health issues for more than 3 months? Will they continue to suffer for more than 9 months?
- Is the client likely to get PIP? How do the clients health conditions impact on day to day life? Is that impact enough to get PIP? If the client doesn’t know run through some example questions with them and they can then decide.
- If this is a new claim, has the client made a PIP application (PIP1)? This is the process of calling PIP and making the application so PIP can send the forms out. If they haven’t done this they need to do it first, and then come back to us as/if required when they get the forms
- If the client has forms, what have they actually got? Is it a PIP2 form (new application or change of circumstances) or a PIP review form? What is the deadline? If this is a review where are the original forms and decision letters, does the client have copies? If this is a review or change of circumstances what has changed?
- Can the client complete the forms with guidance? If not, have they got someone who could help them do it? It is almost always better that a close friend or family member is involved as they know the client better than anybody else
- What about everything else? Income, Personal, and Housing circumstances are almost always relevant in some way or other
Finally, does the client need an appointment? Please consider this carefully
