People across Somerset need your advice
Citizens Advice exists to help people resolve their problems and find a way forward, but we can’t do it without our incredible volunteers. People across Somerset are struggling with a range of financial, relationship, employment, welfare benefit, housing issues and more.
We desperately need people like you to join our team of volunteers delivering vital advice to local people over the phone, via email and in person.
Is Volunteering right for me?
Our volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and are at the heart of what we do. Some are gaining knowledge and skills to support them in their future career. Some are retired but want to use their experience to help others and ‘give something back’ and some are students who want to use their ‘year off’ to gain valuable skills to enhance their CV.
Whatever the reason, our volunteers have one thing in common, they want to make a difference.
Can You:
- Listen with an open mind,
- Put people at their ease and explain things clearly,
- Research and interpret advice options,
- Type, use computers and online applications reasonably confidently,
- Able to commit to a 12 week training programme - with ongoing development,
- Volunteer for 4 to 8 hours a week, once trained, at flexible times that suit you.
If you can say ‘yes’ to all the above and enjoy learning new skills, then you have everything you need to be a fantastic volunteer. Our volunteers tell us that the longer they volunteer with us the more rewarding they find their role.
We welcome volunteers from all walks of life, and you don’t need any specialist knowledge, our training will give you all you need. We pride ourselves in the induction and training we offer, and the ongoing support we give our volunteers who are critical to our ability to deliver a high quality service.

Equity, diversity and inclusion
Equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) are all things we hold dear, they are in our DNA. By this we mean that we subscribe to the view that we are all equal through our common humanity; we value and embrace the diversity of our clients, staff and volunteers and we work to eliminate discrimination.
We strive to provide inclusive and accessible volunteering opportunities to people from all different communities, backgrounds, life experiences, abilities and ages. We particularly welcome applications from people from Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, LGBTQ+ and non-binary people and people with physical or mental health conditions.
